Wilderness Medical Training

Wilderness First Aid,
20 hours

Wilderness First Aid, a 20-hour course, is the finest and most extensive training program available, providing practical and applicable first-aid skills for seasonal outdoor activities or brief wilderness expeditions. This two-day course offers an overview of medical principles and fundamental life support techniques, specifically designed for outdoor enthusiasts engaging in day trips or short journeys. The instruction is delivered by proficient trainers with extensive experience in patient care and wilderness settings.

Wilderness First Responder (WFR) 80 hours

Wilderness First Responder (WFR) 80 hours course is the ideal medical training for outdoor educators, wilderness guides, members of the military, professional search and rescue teams, wildland firefighters, researchers, and those involved in disaster relief. The course provides essential training in wilderness medicine, leadership, and critical thinking for professionals and leaders working and traveling in outdoor, low-resource, and remote environments. The WFR curriculum is both comprehensive and practical and involves a minimum of 70 hours of instruction when taught in the United States (hours vary slightly in other countries). During the course, students learn the essential principles and skills required to assess and manage medical problems in isolated and extreme environments for days and weeks if necessary.

Wilderness Advanced First Aid, 40 hours

Wilderness Advanced First Aid, 40 hours - This entry-level course is tailored for professionals operating in remote settings for extended periods. It provides comprehensive medical training for remote professionals and wilderness leaders who explore challenging environments. Unlike standard first aid courses for urban settings, Wilderness Medicine focuses on managing medical emergencies in areas without immediate access to hospitals or rescue services. The course equips students to handle emergency situations requiring prolonged patient care, in harsh environments, using improvised equipment.

WAFA to WFR Bridge course 40 hours

The WAFA to WFR Bridge course, a 40-hour program, elevates Wilderness Advanced First Aid to the Wilderness First Responder (WFR) level in just 4 days. To qualify, participants must take this course within 3 years of attaining the WMA International WAFA certification or an equivalent from another provider. The WFR training is essential for outdoor enthusiasts and professionals. Moreover, individuals with a current WFR certification or an equivalent from a provider with at least 64 hours of original WFR training can use this course for recertification. Additionally, current WMA International Wilderness EMS Upgrade students can also utilize this course to renew the wilderness segment of their certification.
