Youth Canoe Camp July 22-26 Ages 10-13

Service Description

Get your youngsters the skills they need for family trips on the water. Our camps are designed to give an easy progression into the world of boating. The focus being on fun. Not only will they learn the strokes to move a canoe with their friends but they will also be doing self rescues and companion rescues. How to prevent and get out of bad situations and what they need to do to help their parents and friends out. Day 1: Meet at Rundle forebay in Canmore. Complete waivers and covid screening. Intro to the site and youth ice breaker games. Basics of boats and gear. How to launch canoes and paddle together. Messing about and getting to know the craft. intro to canoe games. Getting wet-getting into and out of boats. Day2: Meet at rundle forebay in Canmore. Getting right into it with more games. Launching and more messing about in boats. T-rescues and companion rescue. more games and performance development. Intro to steering over distance and lake crossing. More games! Day3: Meet at Rundle forebay. Dry land games. More messing around in boats. War canoe racing. More capsize drills. Compartment practice (swimming into and out of a capsized canoe while upside-down). More games! Day 4: Meet at Seebe. transport from Canmore Safeway available. Canoe games. intro to current and river features (very mild currents at Seebe). Throw bag introduction. Self rescue with boat in mild current. More games. Day 5: Meet at Seebe. transport from Canmore Safeway available. Canoe games. intro to current and river features (very mild currents at Seebe). Throw bag introduction. Self rescue with boat in mild current. More games. Participants should be strong swimmers and, due to COVID, come equipped with their own wet suit and PFD. If there is difficulty acquiring these items there will be some available at a reasonable cost to rent

Cancellation Policy

To cancel or reschedule please contact us at least 1 week in advance. Cancelations 2 weeks in advance will receive full refund. Cancellations before one week 1 week deadline but after the two week cut off will incur a 20% admin fee. Last minute cancelations and no shows will have full booking fee retained. Exceptions will be made for special circumstances. We reserve to right to cancel for unsafe weather and river conditions with less than 24hrs of notice. Full refund granted for cancelations due to weather or restrictions, BECAUSE WE ARE AWESOME!
